Every tool, for this game

Each one opens with Pick 4 already selected. The line under every title is true of this game’s rules right now — not a promise about its next draw.

Six true stories

Six documented cases of a beaten lottery. Not one involved patterns in past draws.

Cultural Numbers Atlas

What the world believes about 7, 8, 13 and 17 — and what every machine says back.

Digit Laboratory

4 positional digits, drawn with replacement: test each position, repeat count, sum and palindrome against the right model.

Chernoff Map

Every one of the 10,000 numbers, shaded by how many people hold it — and the repeated-digit ones are held tens of times more often.

Balls versus RNG

If a generator were seeded from the date, a day's draws would know about each other. Seventy-four games are checked here and none of them does.

Thirty Years of Saturdays

One hypothetical routine, thousands of lives, and the full spread of outcomes.

Same Odds, Different Waits

HH and HT each have a one-in-four chance in two flips. Why does one take longer to arrive?

Wrong Formula Lab

Give fair numbers the wrong baseline and watch an innocent pattern appear.

That draw, on a play slip

One pair — one digit twice — 12 orderings.

A straight on 4191 was one line in 10,000. A box on the same digits covered 12 of them — one in 833 — and pays about a 12th as much. Neither is a better bet than the other: they are the same money bought in different sized pieces.

Straight, or box

Pick 4 draws 4 digits in order, each from 10 — so there are exactly 10,000 lines, and every one of them is as likely as every other. What changes with a box is how many of those lines your ticket covers.

Box — Three the same41 in 2,5003603.6%
Box — Four the same11 in 10,000100.1%

The last two columns are why a box on three different digits feels common: 50% of all draws have that shape. It is also why the prize is smaller.

Every digit, in every position

385 draws, so chance expects each digit about 39 times in each position. A position is its own machine: the first digit knows nothing about the second.
