Every tool, for this game
Each one opens with Pick 3 already selected. The line under every title is true of this game’s rules right now — not a promise about its next draw.

Six documented cases of a beaten lottery. Not one involved patterns in past draws.

What the world believes about 7, 8, 13 and 17 — and what every machine says back.

3 positional digits, drawn with replacement: test each position, repeat count, sum and palindrome against the right model.

Every one of the 1,000 numbers, shaded by how many people hold it — and the repeated-digit ones are held tens of times more often.

If a generator were seeded from the date, a day's draws would know about each other. Seventy-four games are checked here and none of them does.

One hypothetical routine, thousands of lives, and the full spread of outcomes.

HH and HT each have a one-in-four chance in two flips. Why does one take longer to arrive?

Give fair numbers the wrong baseline and watch an innocent pattern appear.

From a 1767 paper to every possible arrangement of consecutive runs.

A profitable lottery can still run out of money. Explore a fictional treasury inspired by history.

A royal proposal, an annuity ticket and a national collection: three objects from lottery history.

Not for this gameAll different — every digit different — 6 orderings.
A straight on 182 was one line in 1,000. A box on the same digits covered 6 of them — one in 167 — and pays about a 6th as much. Neither is a better bet than the other: they are the same money bought in different sized pieces.
Pick 3 draws 3 digits in order, each from 10 — so there are exactly 1,000 lines, and every one of them is as likely as every other. What changes with a box is how many of those lines your ticket covers.
| Bet | Lines covered | Chance | Lines of this shape | Share of all draws |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight — the exact order | 1 | 1 in 1,000 | — | — |
| Box — All different | 6 | 1 in 167 | 720 | 72.0% |
| Box — One pair | 3 | 1 in 333 | 270 | 27.0% |
| Box — Three the same | 1 | 1 in 1,000 | 10 | 1.0% |
The last two columns are why a box on three different digits feels common: 72% of all draws have that shape. It is also why the prize is smaller.
5,371 draws, so chance expects each digit about 537 times in each position. A position is its own machine: the first digit knows nothing about the second.
| Digit | Position 1 | Position 2 | Position 3 | In all |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 503 | 519 | 499 | 1,521 |
| 1 | 516 | 539 | 538 | 1,593 |
| 2 | 558 | 500 | 538 | 1,596 |
| 3 | 522 | 546 | 558 | 1,626 |
| 4 | 511 | 517 | 549 | 1,577 |
| 5 | 581 | 545 | 551 | 1,677 |
| 6 | 558 | 538 | 528 | 1,624 |
| 7 | 523 | 563 | 539 | 1,625 |
| 8 | 523 | 527 | 537 | 1,587 |
| 9 | 576 | 577 | 534 | 1,687 |
Expected in all: 1,611 per digit. The digit laboratory tests this properly →
The gold mark on each bar is what chance predicts. These are counts over 5,371 draws, not a forecast: a shape that is behind is not owed a turn.
